Innsbruck - Before the next ski jumping showdown on the
Bergisel
,
Karl Geiger
and
Markus Eisenbichler
longed
for some rest.
"Corona test and then chill a bit" was the program for Eisenbichler from Upper Bavaria after qualifying for the third station of the
Four Hills Tournament
in
Innsbruck
.
Even Geiger hadn't planned much after a “cozy dinner”.
On this Sunday (1.30 p.m. / ARD and Eurosport) the German double aviator wants to improve its good starting position at the hill spectacle.
The golden eagle for the overall winner is the big goal.
Four Hills Tournament 2021: Granerud in the lead before the third competition in Innsbruck
The
violinist
, who is
currently second
in the
tour standings,
has to pass the
previous season high-flyer
Halvor Egner Granerud
in first place.
With his qualifying victory on Saturday, the Norwegian already showed that he can also be expected on the treacherous hill with a view over the city and the picturesque mountains of the Nordkette.
Eisenbichler is still well in the race as fifth, but has to catch up around 13 meters on Granerud - and thus eleven more than Geiger.
Between the two lie the Pole
Kamil Stoch in
third and his compatriot and last year's tour champion
Dawid Kubacki
.

Four Hills Tournament 2021: Eisenbichler with fluctuating feelings
Geiger and Eisenbichler have experienced absolute highs, but also bitter defeats on the German Schicksalsschanze, where many touring dreams have already ended.
"One day you can become world champion and the other day you can't get into the second round," Eisenbichler stated aptly.
In 2019, the outdoorsman from Siegsdorf am Bergisel celebrated the individual world championship title, while his friend Geiger took silver.
During the tour, Eisenbichler had lost many points to the Japanese
Ryoyu Kobayashi
in the foehn storm just two months earlier
and lost all chances.
Four Hills Tournament 2021: First German victory since Hannawald 2002 within reach
A year ago Geiger was on track to win the tour
for Germany again for the first time
after
Sven Hannawald's triumph in 2002
.
A screwed jump in Innsbruck then threw the Oberstdorf back.
The thought of the positive World Cup experience definitely helps, said Geiger after his seventh place in the qualification.
With reference to the ski jump he also said: "It's good to know that you can crack it, but tomorrow I can't buy anything from what was two years ago." (Epp / dpa)
