Former Romanian tennis player Ion Tiriac, who has become a billionaire and owner of the Madrid tournament, attacked Serena Williams in an interview in his country.
Tyriak was ranked at his peak in eighth place in the world and later also served as the manager and coach of top players like Ilya Nastasa, Gijermo Villas, Mary Joe Fernandez, Goran Ivanisevic and Marat Safin.
He was also Boris Becker's agent and managed his career from 1993-1984.
In an interview he said: "At her age and weight, she did not move as she would 15 years ago. Serena was a huge player, but if she has some integrity, she should retire from tennis, from any point of view."
The person who responded to the remarks was Serena's husband, Alexis Ohnian, who responded to reporter Jose Morgado.
The Portuguese journalist tweeted a link to the article and wrote: "It is safe to say that Serena will not play in Madrid again."
Ohnian replied, "It's safe to say that no one put a name on what Sion Thiriac thinks. I had to go to Google to check. It turns out that my three - year - old daughter has more Grand Slam wins than him."

Although Serena is 39, she is 11th in the world and has reached the final in four Grand Slam tournaments since Wimbledon 2018, last year she reached the semi-finals of the United States Championship.
This is not the first time Tiryak has come out against Williams and in 2018 he said of her: "With all due respect, Serena is 36 and weighs too much, I would love to see something different, an actress like Steffi Graf say."
Williams responded then, saying: "I always say people are allowed to hold opinions and it is clear that there are other women in tennis besides me. I will talk to him, rest assured I will let him hear what I think. This is a vague and sexist statement and he is probably ignorant."
