Serie A: Inter misses a golden opportunity

2021-01-06T18:01:49.715Z

Inter Milan, runner-up to leader AC Milan, missed the opportunity to temporarily take the lead in the Italian Championship by losing in Genoa to Sampdoria (2-1) on Wednesday in the 16th day.

Missed opportunity for Inter Milan: beaten in Genoa by Sampdoria (1-2), the Nerazzurri failed to dislodge from the leader's chair, at least temporarily, AC Milan, which hosts Juventus in the evening in the shock of the 16th day of Serie A. In case of success at San Siro against the reigning Italian champions (kick-off at 8:45 p.m.), the Rossoneri can therefore strike a big blow by pushing their domestic dolphin back to four points and the Bianconeri (7th before this match) at thirteen.

This defeat puts an end to a series of eight victories for the Nerazzurri, entirely focused on the conquest of a first scudetto since 2010 after being out of all European competitions.

Antonio Conte's men, who missed a penalty early in the match by Alexis Sanchez, lost on two goals from former Inter residents: a penalty from Antonio Candreva (23rd) then a realization by Keita Baldé (38th) at the conclusion of a great breakthrough from Mikkel Damsgaard.

In the second half, Inter tried everything with the successive entries into play of Romelu Lukaku, not established after a muscle alert last weekend, Christian Eriksen, who started in the transfer window, and Arturo Vidal, also left on the bench at kickoff after being cropped last weekend.

Despite several opportunities for Ivan Perisic, Lautaro Martinez or Lukaku, they only managed to reduce the mark by Stefan de Vrij (65th) from a corner.

Sanchez misses a penalty

Enough to leave them with great regret after a one-sided start to the match which saw Alexis Sanchez miss a penalty, Genoese goalkeeper Audero having repelled the ball before being saved by his post on the recovery of Ashley Young (11th) .

"It was a strange game, we found ourselves from a missed penalty to a penalty and found ourselves in difficulty", noted Antonio Conte, while estimating that "the team had played well, had chances "And" deserved a little better ".

Inter see AS Roma (3rd) come back to three points before their face to face next Sunday at the Olimpico stadium.

The Giallorossi easily won on the field of the red lantern Crotone (3-1).

Tenured at the forefront in place of Edin Dzeko, victim of a muscle problem, the Spaniard Borja Mayoral perfectly supplemented his captain with two goals (8th, 29th) before obtaining a penalty converted by Henrikh Mkhitaryan (35th).

Atalanta Bergamo (6th) also confirmed their comeback.

The turbulence caused by the sidelining of "Papu" Gomez now seems to have been digested and the "Dea" already has eight goals scored in 2021 (in 2 matches): Parma, beaten 3-0, paid the price for this return in shape three days after the demonstration against Sassuolo (5-1).

A slap from which Sassuolo (4th) recovered by disposing of Genoa (2-1).

Lazio Rome (8th), in slow motion for a few matches, also relaunched against Fiorentina (2-1) thanks to Felipe Caicedo (6th) and the eleventh goal of the season for Ciro Immobile (75th).

La Viola, who lost Franck Ribéry in the first period to injury, remains stuck in the second half of the standings.
