Marzling

 - The football rests.

During the winter break and on public holidays, most amateur footballers take a little less time, maybe snack on one or two cookies and neglect their fitness.

Not so Florian Wolf (34) from the district classist SV Marzling: The former fourth division player does strength exercises daily in his specially equipped fitness room, goes running several times a week - and then even cools down with a jump into the ice-cold Isar.

"In the now football-free time, I play sports six to seven times a week," said Wolf.

“Because I'm currently in the home office due to the lockdown, I also have the time to do it.

I prepare the 30- to 60-minute training program for the next day the evening before. "Since the football season is paused in winter, Wolf can explicitly do more for his legs in addition to the daily exercises for the upper body:" That I will go through the current program until the preparation starts.

When regular soccer training is due again, the focus is more on the upper body. "

Florian Wolf has converted his garage into a fitness room

The 34-year-old has set up his own fitness room in his garage with a few mats, TRX straps, dumbbells, kettlebells and a pull-up bar for his units.

Despite the aids, the co-player coach of the Marzlinger Kreisklassen team swears by self-weight exercises and incorporates many movement elements.

His main goal is: "Get your pulse as high as possible."

In addition to the strength units, Wolf's fitness program is based on two other pillars: regeneration and a healthy diet.

“To supplement my training or to regenerate, I go running on the Isar two to three times a week,” says Wolf.

"Either a shorter distance of five kilometers at a brisk pace or ten to twelve kilometers at a more relaxed pace." Wolf swears by cold therapy for perfect regeneration and to strengthen the immune system: To do this, he regularly jumps for two to three after his runs Minutes into the cold Isar.

The 34-year-old defines his diet as “everything that grows naturally on earth”.

This includes potatoes, rice and fresh fruit and vegetables.

“For example, I eat noodles less,” says Wolf.

"I fundamentally value a healthy diet and, given the amount of exercise, of course I consume a lot of proteins and carbohydrates."

But why does he put so much effort into fitness?

According to Wolf, there are two main reasons for this: “On the one hand, I'm a former competitive athlete and I'm used to this lifestyle.

On the other hand, I had a lot of injuries - including two hip cartilage damage - and use all the sports as a rehabilitation measure. ”He was operated twice on each of his hips.

First a piece of cartilage was removed, which was then grown in vitro and then reinserted.

In 2012 it was the left hip, in 2014 the same problems appeared on the right side.

After that, six to eight months of crutches were announced for the native Marzlinger, who completed his entire youth as well as the first three years in the men's area at SVM.

Roman Grill and the player uprising at FC Ismaning

But the path led Wolf into higher-class football: In 2007, he moved from the district class to the Bayernliga for FC Ismaning.

At that time, the Bayernliga was the fourth highest division among the two national leagues and the Regionalliga Süd.

He spent six years at FCI before there was a real player uprising in the winter of 2012/13 when Roman Grill, among other things player advisor to Philipp Lahm, was appointed as the team's new coach.

"As a player adviser, Grill had brought many new young players with him, whom he wanted to shape into professionals in Ismaning and who should use the club as a springboard," remembers Wolf of the turbulent time in which the two team captains Thomas Bachinger and Bernd Häfele, among others have been suspended by the new trainer.

Wolf: “Many regular players showed solidarity with both of them and boycotted the training and thus also the coach.

The whole thing then ended in such a way that my contract was also terminated and I was without a club. "

It was exactly at this time that Wolf underwent his first hip operation, which is why he was only able to play games again at the end of the season - for SV Seligenporten in the regional league.

From 2013/14 on, the striker joined TSV 1865 Dachau and went hunting for goals in the state and Bayern leagues for three and a half years before moving back to the Freising district in the winter of the 2017/18 season.

After one and a half years at VfB Hallbergmoos, he finally returned to his roots in summer 2019 and has been a player and assistant coach at SV Marzling ever since.

“There are two reasons why I came back to Marzling,” explains Wolf.

“First of all, SVM coach Thomas Zellermeyr is a good guy of mine.

And secondly, I would like to work as a trainer in the future, so I can gain my first experience. "

Co-player-coach Wolf takes the young kickers to the task

In the current Kreisklassen season, the Marzlingers are in fourth place in the table and are four points behind leaders TSV Au.

The ambitious co-trainer rates this record as mixed: “I'm not satisfied yet.

Unfortunately, we rarely have many people in training - and I also noticed that the youngsters in particular do not show the ambition that I would actually like. "

As planned, the second half of the season for Wolf and the SVM should take place on 6/7.

March start with the League Cup round of 16 at Vatanspor Freising.

Until then, the 34-year-old fitness freak still has a number of fitness units to do.
