Greece prepares for Oded Katash's comeback: "Takes on a suicide mission"

The announcement of the appointment of Oded Katash as the new coach of Panathinaikos is a "matter of hours" - according to the Greek media.

The 46-year-old coach is expected to sign for a year and a half in the team in which he starred as a player until he was injured and forced to retire, and the deal will become official as soon as the amount of compensation Hapoel Jerusalem receives for his release is agreed.

Katsch will inherit the team from Giorgios Wobaras who was recently fired in a not-so-simple situation.

Last night, Pau suffered its 12th loss of the season in the Euroleague, this time to Zenit St. Petersburg at home, and is ranked in the penultimate place in the factory.

In addition, Greece explains that Katsch will have very little room for maneuver in his new role: the staff will probably remain as he is, and due to budgetary constraints it will not be possible to strengthen him in the immediate term.

Katsch will try to stabilize the ship and especially bring back the passion and hunger to Ouaka, after the chain of losses and shocks caused the players mental damage.

Senior Greek commentator Dimitris Contos wrote on the SDNA website that "Panathinaikos needs a man to inspire players. Pau's problem is first and foremost mental and only then professional. The club's image has been badly damaged in recent months, and players look completely pale. Katsch will have to regain hope."

Also in the commentary column in the Greek "Gazette" they wondered about the role that Katsch takes on.

"Will he be able to wake the players? Is he able to succeed with a team he did not build? Is he the right man in the difficult circumstances in Pao this year? Diamantidis and Albertis believe in him, that's why they chose him. The burden of proof will be on him."

The Sport24 website stated that "everyone in Pao is waiting for Katsch's appointment, but it should be made clear - Katsch is not the Messiah. He is not the man to change the situation in Pao dramatically. He does not have the required Euroleague experience to do so, and yet not the abilities. "It is ready that he will not change or be upgraded in the near future. This will make his task very difficult."
