Borussia Dortmund prevailed 3-1 (0-0) in the away game at RB Leipzig.

The Leipziger thus missed the chance to lead the table after front runners Bayern Munich lost to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday.

Jadon Sancho took the lead (54th minute). Erling Haaland later expanded it with a brace (71st, 84th).

Alexander Sörloth's goal came too late (90th).

When two Champions League participants meet and do their job well defensively, it can happen that there are no scoring opportunities.

Nevertheless, the game was worth seeing right from the start, characterized by a high intensity but fair duel.

Leipzig pressed high, which means that the guests were permanently under pressure.

With long balls they wanted to use the fast offensive players Haaland, Sancho and Giovanni Reyna, but that did not succeed.

Leipzig's shortcoming was the lack of space to get into the Dortmund penalty area.

RB had the best opportunity after a quick attack (26th).

Manuel Akanji intercepted Tyler Adams' cross pass from the right side of the box.

Dortmund midfielder Axel Witsel got stuck in the grass after half an hour, injured himself and was replaced by Emre Can (30th).

(49.).

After the next corner Can headed just over it.

A hit was hinted at - and it fell: After a throw-in, the guests combined forward, Haaland placed in the center to Reus, who forwarded to Sancho with the hoe.

The Englishman hit the left corner from close range (54th).

Edin Terzić's team continued to determine the game, and Leipzig was lucky that Haaland's shot hit the crossbar after a pass from Sancho (65th).

The first action by the home team was directly dangerous.

Dani Olmo failed with his low shot from close range on the left inside post (67th).

Again it was a playfully presented attack by Dortmund that led to a goal.

Haaland headed a cross from Sancho at the second post (71.).

Leipzig tried again, but caught the third goal.

Reus pushed through to Haaland at the right moment, who scored his second goal (84th).

It was his twelfth goal of the season.

Shortly before the end of the game, Sörloth failed at Bürki, but made use of the margin (90th).
