A poll conducted by Japan's Kyodo News Agency revealed that about 80 percent of Japanese want to cancel or postpone the Summer Olympics in Tokyo this year.
The poll showed that 35 percent of those participating in it support the cancellation of the Olympic Games in light of increasing concern about the high number of Coronavirus infections, while 44.8 percent preferred to postpone the major sporting event to a later date.
These results come after Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga pledged three days ago to hold the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer, despite the Japanese capital entering a state of emergency to counter the spread of the Corona virus.
Last March, the International Olympic Committee announced the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics, which was scheduled for the summer of last year, to 2021 due to the outbreak of the Corona virus.
