At the end of this meeting, the UNFP, "fully aware of the situation", "invites the players to discuss quickly with their clubs to consider the methods of reducing their remuneration in order to save professional football strongly affected by this crisis and to ensure that the 2020/2021 season comes to an end, ”according to a statement released by the Professional Football League.
Tensions on the subject in the spring
While French football is going through an unprecedented crisis since the spring, between the forced and forced end of the 2019-20 season by the authorities and the matches behind closed doors and the Mediapro fiasco depriving the clubs of their main cash flow , footballers are therefore invited by their union to make an effort linked to their remuneration and to sit at the negotiating table with their leaders.
In the spring, such solicitation had led to sometimes tense discussions between the various parties, in particular at Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain.
The capital club had also tried to involve the players' union (UNFP), without success.
