Hippism: Khalid Abdullah, a Prince is gone

2021-01-12T19:23:10.823Z

One of the world's largest owners and breeders of racehorses passed away on Tuesday. He was 83 years old.

Born in Saudi Arabia, Khalid Abdullah was a member of the Saudi dynasty.

Unlike the majority of his family (Al Saoud), his fame did not come from his political functions but in particular from his breeding and his stable of racehorses.

Frankel, Enable and the others

Few Groups I have not been won by its legendary jacket (green, white sleeves, pink epaulettes and toque).

Prince Khalid Abdullah has won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe six times.

A number that makes him the corecordman (with Marcel Boussac) of victories in the most beautiful gallop event in the world.

He has also and notably won the Epsom Derby three times, four times the 2000 Guineas in England.

The second victory of Enable in the Arc de Triomphe:

Its famous colors have been worn by real phenomena.

Unbeaten in fourteen races,

Frankel

is considered THE horse in the history of galloping.

He won the 2000 Guineas, Champion Stakes, Sussex Stakes, etc.

Closer to home,

Enable

shot two arrows right in the heart of our French Arc de Triomphe and won in the Breeders' Cup Turf, Oaks and Irish Oaks ... before joining stud.

Arrogate

, one of its many champions, has won the Breeders' Cup Classic, Dubai World Cup and Pegasus World Cup.

We could, of course, cite others.

Many others.

Prince Khalid Abdullah shone through his Juddmonte Farms in the United States and Banstead Manor Stud in England, from which

Frankel

,

Enable

,

Kingman

,

Dansili

,

Oasis Dream

and others come.

“It’s really a great man who is gone!

"

The man had a reputation for being loyal to his coaches.

John Gosden, Henry Cecil, Sir Michael Stoute, Roger Charlton, Barry Hills, Amanda Perrett in Great Britain.

In France, it was André Fabre, Pascal Bary, Maurice Zilber and Christiane Head, who declared: “It is a real horseman who has left.

It is a very big loss for the races in the world.

When I learned of his death this morning (Tuesday), I was very affected.

I trained for 40 years for this illustrious owner, receiving his first yearlings in 1978. He was absolutely loyal to his trainers.

I won a dozen Groups I under his jacket both in France and England.

To name just three, I would single out

Special Duty

,

African Rose,

and

American Post

.

I hope his son will take up the torch.

Obviously very moved at the news of his death, David Smaga, who also trained for this famous owner on our soil, said: "Many have this title, but he was a real Prince.

It is really a great man who left!
