The college football season came to an end tonight (Monday through Tuesday) with a historic moment: Alabama, ranked No. 1, easily defeated ranked No. 3 Ohio State in the final game in Miami, 24:52, and regained the championship title after two seasons of hiatus.

For Crimson Tide coach Nick Saiban, it was his seventh career win (six with Alabama, one with LSU) and he now holds the all-time record, having broken a tie with legendary coach Bar Bryant.

The Bucks, who due to the Corona have only played eight games this season (compared to Alabama's 13), did surprisingly defeat Clemson and Trevor Lawrence in the semifinals, but came in as a clear underdog and managed to hold out just a quarter and a half against the formidable rival, who finished another season undefeated.

After each team scored two touchdowns, Alabama opened burners and freshman Heisman winner Devonte Smith finished a monstrous first half with three touchdowns, en route to a 17:35 lead at the break (Smith also won the MVP at the end).

From there it was already pretty simple for the Crimson Tide, with Smith scoring 215 yards in the air and Mack Jones providing 464 yards, five touchdowns and one pumble.

On the losing side, Justin Fields, apparently the No. 2 pick in the upcoming draft, settled for 194 yards and a touchdown plus 67 yards on the ground.

News from the league

  • Philadelphia yesterday fired its coach of the past five years, Doug Pedersen, after a terrible season that ended in an 11: 1: 4 balance and last place at the dismal NFC East House.

Pedersen led the Eagles to a historic championship just about three years ago and finished his part at the club with a 39: 1: 46 balance.

Now the team will have to decide what to do with the burning Carson Wentz issue, after the disappointing quarterback lost his place towards the end of the season and considered demanding a trade.

  • Bill Blichik has announced that in light of last week's events on Capitol Hill he is rejecting outgoing President Donald Trump's offer to award him the prestigious Presidential Freedom Medal this coming Thursday.
