Chairman Oliver Schäffler from SC Eching is optimistic about the future despite the ongoing corona crisis - and hopes for a turnaround.

- How did the SC Eching master 2020?
Despite the corona pandemic, there is not only negative to report for Chairman Oliver Schäffler.
In an interview with the Freisinger Tagblatt, he is also convinced that his association will emerge stronger from the crisis.
Mr. Schäffler, 2020 was anything but a normal year. What is your conclusion on the past twelve months?
Of course, we had to fight hard because of the corona pandemic.
The closing of the halls from March onwards hit us very hard - and especially in the last few months I have noticed that more members are being given notice.
However, it is not yet dramatic, and I hope that the trend will turn around soon.
The year 2020 started with a nice event on the part of the community, the athlete's honor - the community center was really full and we received many prizes.
In addition, despite the pandemic, we published our 50th anniversary newspaper in August.
It has become a masterpiece, in which all departments introduced themselves in detail.
The planned festival weekend in July unfortunately had to be canceled and has now been postponed until this year.

Has the corona pandemic hit all departments at SC Eching equally?
Yes, there wasn't much of a difference in my opinion.
When the halls are closed, everyone is equally affected.
Despite the crisis, a lot has happened - and I would like to thank our hygiene officer above all.
You have achieved a lot, developed concepts and thus made sure that we could get started again after the first lockdown.
In this context, my thanks also go to the community.
She made sure that, as an exception, we were allowed into the halls in the summer.
Fortunately, the municipality is also pushing ahead with the construction of the tennis hall.
This should start this year and be completed in autumn.
I am convinced that everything will go well.
Before that, our project group had already built a changing room with showers for the tennis hall with a lot of personal work.

Training was still not possible for many months of the year. Has the club come up with something here?
In fact, some departments such as Gymnastics & Fitness or Karate have offered online training courses.
These were regularly broadcast live and designed to meet the space requirements at home.
It was a great success and was well received by both children and adults.
We have also switched our meetings to Skype and even organized a mixed meeting in between.
Especially the older ones could follow everything from home.
But if you wanted, you could come by in person.
The association is doing very well when it comes to “digitization” - we have benefited from that.

What is your outlook for 2021?
It has been shown that I can always rely on my team.
A survey of the members on how we dealt with the hygiene regulations gave largely positive feedback.
We currently have around 1,600 members and I hope for everyone that things will soon return to normal.

I am sure that the SCE will come out of the crisis stronger and that the club will continue to exist for at least the next 50 years.
