Tennis pro Denis Kudla (USA) had progress in the qualifying tournament for the Australian Open close in mind - but then he was suddenly stopped.
During the break before the last service game, the 28-year-old found out about his positive corona test, but Kudla was able to end the game against Elliot Benchetrit (Morocco) and won 6: 4, 6: 3.
But instead of moving into the penultimate round, Kudla immediately went to a quarantine hotel.
If he had lost the service game, the match would have been abandoned and Benchetrit declared the winner.
Another positive test - but before the game
In addition to Kudla, Francisco Cerundolo also tested positive.
However, the Argentine found out about the result before he could play his match against Mario Vilella Martinez from Spain.
Due to the strict restrictions in Melbourne, the qualification tournament will take place in Doha / Qatar.
The start of the first Grand Slam tournament of the year has already been pushed back three weeks to February 8th.
