Cristiano Ronaldo has become a legend from the moment he arrived at Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon, but was he even supposed to play for Barcelona?
Juan Laporta, the leading candidate to be re-elected president of Barcelona, earlier conducted an interview in which he provided a particularly interesting quote about CR7 and explained how he almost got to the Camp Nou.
"We were going to sign Ronaldinho and Rafa Marx," said Laporta. "Marx's men offered us Cristiano Ronaldo when he was at Sporting Lisbon. We have it for only 17 million euros. "

Laporta explained why he gave up Ronaldo: "We were already investing in Ronaldinho at the time. Cristiano played more on the wing than in the center. We thought we needed a player to play in the middle so we refused to sign him and I do not regret it."
Ronaldo may have become a legend at Manchester United, but Ronaldinho also made a name for himself in Barcelona and became the fan idol and also the mentor of Lionel Messi who had just jumped to the seniors.
Not sure who Barcelona fans would have preferred, but the combination of Messi and Ronaldo in the same team, it turns out, was a perfectly possible scenario.
