The British Francesca Jones recorded a huge achievement yesterday (Wednesday) when she managed to advance to the main draw of the Australian Championship after going through three qualifying rounds.

Jones defeated Chinese Lu Jia Jing 0: 6, 1: 6 in the decisive third round and secured herself at least 100,000 Australian dollars (about 65,000 euros).

Jones, who suffers from a rare syndrome and has only four toes on his right hand, four on his left and seven on his feet (three on his right and four on his left), made his Grand Slam debut for the first time.

Jones recounted what happened after she had a hard time with her parents: "They had nothing to tell me at all. All I heard was crying, shouting and my dog barking. It was such an emotional moment because we went through so much together and I left England at the age of nine or "I missed a lot of shared experiences with them and we all had a very hard time with it."

The 20-year-old British woman said her bat has a smaller handle than a standard bat and is also lighter compared to a regular bat.

"I've spent a lot of my life trying to gain strength to support my muscles to cover up the weaknesses I have. I think every person has some kind of physical weakness, unless it's Cristiano Ronaldo or something. I'm just trying to improve my weaknesses."

Jones will travel to Australia this weekend to go into solitary confinement for two weeks before taking part in the Grand Slam tournament for the first time.

She will enter a new and unfamiliar world for her after spending several years in tiny tournaments without referees.

"I know what the level is in these tournaments, I've seen Joe Conte a lot in training and I know what dedication and concentration these players put in to be where they are today. I'm just trying to put myself in that environment and see how the players react."

Prior to the tournament, Jones had an interview with the BBC, in which she said: "I think I play the game with other cards, but that does not mean my cards will not win for me. The doctors told me I would never become a professional. I guess when someone tells you at eight or Nine you would not be able to do something, so most people would be heartbroken, but I was just trying to deal with and show the person who was wrong.I also wanted to prove to myself that I can do it and encourage others to do it because I think there are a lot of children who are limited in some way by what others They are told.
