Is the ice rink now defrosting after all? Stadtwerke want to decide this week

In Fürstenfeldbruck, the municipal utilities are thinking about thawing the ice in the ice rink.

That would mean the season for the EVF would be over before it started.

Fürstenfeldbruck

- The latest announcement from the ice hockey chairman of the Bavarian Ice Sports Association (BEV), Frank Butz, in connection with the extension of the lockdown until the end of January does not come as a real surprise for the Bavarian ice hockey clubs. Of course, the interruption of the entire BEV game operation (adults / youth) extended accordingly.

"Knowing that it is becoming increasingly unlikely to be able to run an orderly league game for all of our leagues, we consider a final end of the season to be the wrong signal at this point in time," the chairman informed the clubs in a letter.

However, it is becoming increasingly unlikely that the ice rinks in the district will be played again this winter.

In the Polariom in Germering, those responsible have already pulled the plug.

The ice is thawed.

A fate that also threatens the ice rink in Fürstenfeldbruck.

The municipal utilities will decide this week whether the ice processing will continue or whether it will finally be thawed for this season, as operations manager Andreas Wohlmann informed the daily newspaper on request.

"We are in close contact with the clubs, which of course hope to be able to go on the ice again this winter, at least for training," said Wohlmann.

But he also pointed out that maintaining the ice rink in the open-air stadium would require a great deal of effort, both in terms of personnel and energy.

The EVF's wish: at least to be able to train again

Since the season usually ends at the beginning of March anyway, the vice-president of the Bruck ice hockey club, Manuel Vilgertshofer, is a realist: “I don't see any more games this season anyway,” he says.

"But if the children could at least train a little, that would of course be nice."

Many ice rinks have already been closed permanently for this season.

A complete demolition would in all likelihood result in other municipalities and operators following this step, Butz fears.

"Even if this may seem unrealistic at the moment, we want to at least maintain the possibility of training." Butz hopes, especially for the young junior teams, that the ice surfaces will not be finally defrosted.

BEV: Corona will also affect the next season

At the same time, however, he believes that Corona will not be history in autumn either.

"The virus will also be with us in the 2021/22 season," said the BEV chairman.

In order for regular training and games to be possible from late summer onwards, politicians, associations and clubs are required to set the course now.

“As a society and for our sport, there can be no 'keep it up',” says Butz.

The summer preparations that have been practiced so far also need to be rethought.

"Let us see the pandemic and the experiences we have made as an opportunity for our ice hockey," he calls on the clubs in his letter to jointly develop a pool of ideas "how we want to position ourselves for the future." He asks the clubs to give him suggestions and submit ideas.
