Barcelona may not be particularly impressive without Leo Messi, but at least yesterday (Wednesday) they showed a lot of character, beating Real Sociedad 2: 3 in a penalty shootout in the Super Cup semi-final after 1: 1 after 90 minutes.

Pouch himself also revealed that "I offered myself the last kick, and I kicked it with a lot of determination. You have to believe in yourself, and I continue to believe in myself all the time. I have never lost the desire to be part of Barcelona's senior team and I intend to fight for it."
Pouch argues that Koeman's bench does not make him doubt himself.

Antoine Griezmann, who missed one of the penalties, also complimented Puch at the end, saying "he showed a lot of responsibility" and added with a smile: "Ricky, I owe you a meal. You saved me."
The Spanish media praised Pouch, and "Marca" noted that "he sent a clear message to Koman with his conduct and with taking responsibility in the closing minutes. He deserves more minutes and more chances."
Spain also complimented Marc-Andre Ter Stegen who provided a host of saves for 90 minutes, stopping two Sociedad penalty kicks in the decisive duel.
"Barcelona should thank Ter Stegen today. The really great players are showing up for a game of this kind, and he did it big time."

And what about Leo Messi?
Coman said he "does not yet know" whether the Argentine star will be eligible for the Super Cup final on Sunday, but Barcelona estimate that the rest today will allow him to take part in the game, even if for a limited period of time.
Either way, Messi is showing leadership even when he is not on the roster.
Last night Messi was seen talking to the players before the penalty shootout and trying to spur them on, when in Spain they noted that "he looks like the coach".
Ricky Pouch thanked him at the end for the positive reinforcement.
"He told me, 'You'll score, I have no doubt about that.' It definitely helped me," he said.
