Eleven against nine and yet no victory: Würzburger Kickers, bottom of the league, did not get beyond a draw in the relegation duel of the 2nd Bundesliga against Eintracht Braunschweig.
In a hard-fought match, the team of coach Bernhard Trares separated 0-0 from the guests who have been waiting for a win for six league games.
Braunschweig had to play nine for the last half hour.
First, defender Dominik Wydra saw yellow-red for repeated fouls (51st minute), 15 minutes later Manuel Schwenk flew off the pitch after a hard tackle against Dominic Baumann with red.
There were hardly any chances to score on Braunschweig (worst offensive in the league) and Würzburg (weakest home team).
Only after the evictions did the game pick up speed.
The Kickers developed good chances, including Baumann's head (62nd) and Rolf Feltscher (90th) hit the post.
The SpVgg Greuther Fürth missed the leap to the promotion ranks of the 2nd division despite the best opportunities.
The team only scored 1-1 (1-1) against relegated SC Paderborn at the start of the 16th matchday and remained fourth in the table for the time being.
Fürth quickly took the lead through Sebastian Ernst (8th), Chris Führich scored to equalize (24th).
