The ski lift has to rest for the second season in a row, but SC Wasentegernbach can cope financially.

Wasentegernbach - Anyone who hears about a ski club with its own ski lift and even its own snowcat does not initially assume that this club could be in the Erding district.

But exactly there, in the easternmost corner, is the Loher Streif, as it was lovingly christened by the members of the Wasentegernbacher Ski Club.

Thanks to the natural conditions, this descent even has a ski jump.

Ideal conditions for beginners, but also for experienced skiers who simply want to hit the slopes before or after work without having to sit in the car for a few hours.

But now the lift has been standing still for the second season in a row.

"Actually unbelievable," says the club's second chairman, Martin Bauer.

After all, you have always skied in the last 20 years.

Last year, global warming meant that there was not enough snow available for the first time.

This year, due to the corresponding requirements in the context of the corona pandemic, the lift could not be built, even if the conditions were currently promising.

Machine operator and snow groomer driver Josef Mayer is also sad.

The almost 50-year-old Kässbohrer caterpillar of the association, which has 380 members, was ultimately out of action for two years.

It is true that they have already considered getting their own snow cannon.

In terms of personnel, the effort for this would not be manageable due to the extended operating times in Wasentegernbach.

The hut, i.e. the valley station, was brought back into shape in the summer and cleaned up really nicely, but cannot currently be used.

To make matters worse, the 50th anniversary had to be postponed.

A big day of hiking was planned through the German People's Sports Association (DVV).

The entire club management had planned distances of five, ten and 20 kilometers, and the two chairmen Stefan Gruber and Martin Bauer had cycled them.

“When you explore our area in this way, you first see how beautiful it is here,” says Bauer.

It is currently completely open whether the anniversary hiking day can still take place.

Gruber hopes to be able to offer the ski courses with trainer Ingo Fiebiger to Kössen again in the coming winter.

The ski courses are something very special, according to the two chairmen, after all, the voluntary work and donations meant that there were hardly any expenses for the young people.

Even meals are included in the prices for the ski course.

They also hope to be able to restart the club's full winter program under the direction of sports director Richard Stadler.

All other branches of the ski club are currently forced to do nothing.

Whether the volleyball department, the “Weiherbulls”, the club's ice hockey team around department head Martin Mayer or the ski gymnastics from Christine Huber and Anita Feuchtgruber.

The positive thing, however, is that the association is not in financial distress, like some others due to the corona pandemic.

"We are in very good financial shape," said club boss Gruber.

They have always managed very carefully and, apart from the BLSV membership fees, almost no expenses.

Every two years there is a TÜV fee for the lift.

“And every five years, like all other ski lift operators, we have to change the rope.

Whether we used it or not, ”says Bauer.

The "Wirt z'Loh" provides the area at the ski lift free of charge.

The low expenses are also the reason why the membership fees could still be kept very moderate. Adults currently pay 20 euros per year, young people ten and children just five euros.
