English club Derby County announced the appointment of former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney as coach of the team.
The club said in a statement on its official website that the 35-year-old had signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the struggling team in the first division.
Rooney, England's all-time top scorer with 53 goals and the historic scorer for Manchester United, joined Derby as a player and coach one year ago, but after his retirement he will focus on his coaching mission completely.
Rooney is considered one of Britain's most famous players, scoring 253 goals for United, winning five Premier League titles and one Champions League title.
