From 2017 to 2019 he shaped successful years in Frankfurt, then he moved on to Real Madrid - and now he's back: Luka Jović was the man of the evening against Schalke.

Eintracht Frankfurt's André Silva is already one of the top strikers in the league.

Matthew Hoppe from FC Schalke is just about to make a name for himself.

They met both in a direct duel at the end of the 16th Bundesliga matchday.

But there was also a returnee: Luka Jović.

The loan from Real Madrid led Eintracht Frankfurt to 3-1 (1: 1) success over Schalke 04.

Silva scored the lead with his twelfth goal of the season (28th minute).

Hoppe equalized just a minute later, for the 19-year-old it was the fourth goal of the season.

In the previous week he had scored three goals in a 4-0 win over Hoffenheim - and he was thus mainly responsible for Schalke being able to end its negative run of 30 Bundesliga games without a win.

In the 62nd minute, Jović came into play, whose return was known until summer during the week.

Ten minutes later, the Serb hit with a powerful shot.

In stoppage time Jović put his second goal after.

The goalscorer was already active for Eintracht from 2017 to 2019 and won the cup with her in 2018, and in summer 2019 he went to Real Madrid for a transfer of over 60 million euros.

Frankfurt is attacking the international places and is seventh in the table (26 points).

At Schalke, in the third game under coach Christian Gross, a somewhat more stable defense (weakest defense in the league; 42 goals conceded), but the attack could hardly provide relief.

Schalke falls back to the bottom of the table after the defeat.

David Abraham was last on the field near Frankfurt.

The captain and longtime defender will be leaving the club with immediate effect to end his career in his native Argentina.

As usual, the 34-year-old exuded calm against Schalke, and he and his teammates were superior.

At the break, Eintracht had eleven shots on goal, Schalke only one.

Shortly before the break, Erik Durm could have brought his team back into the lead after a nice through pass, but Ralf Fährmann fought off strongly.

The second half was marked by the goals of Jović.

In the Bundesliga there is still one matchday in the first half of the season: Frankfurt has to go to SC Freiburg next Wednesday (8.30 p.m.), which just lost in the first game on Sunday at Bayern.

Schalke will also face a direct relegation competitor on Wednesday - 1. FC Köln is waiting (6.30 p.m.; both games in the live ticker at SPIEGEL.de).

There may be reinforcements for FC Schalke by then: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is said to have decided to return to Gelsenkirchen and apparently wants to announce this decision on Sunday evening.

This is reported by the »Bild« newspaper.
