Israeli football is facing a dramatic day in which the fate of the 20/21 season in the senior leagues may be determined.

The government will convene today to discuss extending the closure until the end of the month, and the Football Leagues Administration fears that if the Premier League does not return to activity this coming weekend this could have devastating consequences.

Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Health, Professor Itamar Grotto, informed the chairman of the directorate, Erez Kalfon, that he had recommended to Corona projector Nachman Ash, as well as to the Minister of Health, Yuli Edelstein, that football could be returned this weekend.

According to a source involved in the details, it is possible that this coming weekend the Premier League in football and basketball will return, but the National League will not. But as stated, the decision now is in the hands of the government alone.

Meanwhile, other senior officials in the Ministry of Health sent a message this morning to members of the league administration and chairman Erez Kalfon: "There is a desire for football to be excluded, but the issue still needs to be discussed at the Corona cabinet meeting."

Even before the shutdown, Kalfon was promised that Israeli football would return to activity in any case this coming Saturday.

If this does not happen, heavy consequences, economic and legal, are expected, including the inability of clubs to continue operating without releasing all staff players.

"We play all over the world and only sit at home with us"

Beyond that, the Premier League clubs also intend to shift gears and raise a shout.

"It can not be that all over the world football is played and only here people sit at home. Who will return to the team owners tens of millions of shekels invested this year? The big clubs will be removed from European factories, the government does not understand what it is doing, the damage is enormous."
