The Professional Football League launched on Tuesday evening a call for tenders on the audiovisual rights of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2. This consultation comprising 4 lots for L 1 concerns the exploitation of the rights initially attributed to Mediapro, the broadcaster failing, for the remainder of the 2020-2021 season (from February 5, 2021) as well as over the following three seasons.

The date of February 5 is not innocent since OM-PSG, the clasico generating beautiful audiences, is scheduled for Sunday February 7.

This means that the League wants to go fast.

Within the LFP, the most optimistic estimated last Thursday that the tender could be completed in less than two weeks.

Indeed, under the pressure of Canal +, the board of directors of the League recorded last week a reopening of competition of its lots which remained fallow.

A board attended by Jean-Michel Aulas (as guest) but not Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, a member of the board, but president of PSG and also beIN Sports, the Qatari channel which could be a candidate for certain lots of the call for 'offers.

But the big winner could be Canal +.

Even if it will be necessary to scrutinize the reaction of the leaders of the encrypted channel who militated for a global consultation, and not only on the 80% of the TV rights formerly held by Mediapro.

It remains to be seen the overall sum that the next broadcasters will be ready to pay if the call for tenders does not prove to be unsuccessful.

Only one certainty: we will be far from the 814 million euros that Mediapro had put on the table in 2018 before turning into a bad payer.
