For months, the two Bayernliga clubs from the district have been condemned to idleness.

Now TSV Peißenberg and EA Schongau are drawing the consequences.

Peißenberg

- Last Tuesday, the meeting with the Prime Minister and Chancellor Angela Merkel met in Berlin.

What those responsible announced at the end of the day was not really surprising: the lockdown, originally dated January 31, will be extended until mid-February.

This also has consequences for amateur ice hockey.

More and more municipalities are closing their ice rinks - and they won't open them again this winter.

The prospects for Bavarian ice hockey players: more than bleak.

The two Bayernliga clubs from the Weilheim-Schongau district, EA Schongau and TSV Peißenberg have therefore come to the following conclusion: The 2020/21 season, which basically did not start properly, is over.

The question of whether to play ice hockey again now has been settled.

Martin Resch, team manager at EA Schongau

“The question of whether to play ice hockey again now has been settled.

Even if everything goes well from February 14th, the ice rinks won't open again a few days later, ”says Martin Resch, team manager at EA Schongau.

In other words: the ice hockey winter is over.

Those responsible in Peißenberg come to the same conclusion: “It's over for senior ice hockey.

You no longer bring together a hobby or cup round, "says" Ice Hacker "boss Norbert Ortner.

“But I can't finish the season, it has to come from the association,” Ortner continued.

Like the rest of the Bavarian amateur clubs, he is now waiting for official confirmation by the Bavarian Ice Sports Association (BEV).

In a letter to the clubs last week, he said that there was still some hope for the continuation of the season in whatever form.

"Knowing that it is becoming increasingly unlikely to be able to run an orderly league game for all of our leagues, we consider a final end of the season at this point in time to be the wrong signal," said BEV chairman Frank Butz in the letter.

Ice hockey: Several clubs have already closed their hall for this season

However, the clubs were not convinced by their chairman's statements.

Those responsible in Burgau, Bad Wörishofen, Geretsried and Miesbach had already thawed the ice and locked the halls.

Now the ESC Kempten has also joined: The Bayern League climber from the Allgäu announced on his homepage that he has ended the ice age for this season.

“After a few weeks of hoping and anxiety, it is now a sad certainty: The cooling system in the Kempten ice rink is switched off,” write those responsible for the “Sharks”.

Until recently, the association had hoped for a positive signal from politicians in order to "be able to offer training again, at least in the junior segment".

For the people of Kempten it is not an unbearable state not to be able to take part in a game round that is considered as an alternative after the end of the lockdown: “In the meantime, many other clubs no longer have their own ice available, so that no sensible sporting round would have come together anyway “, Writes the ESC on its homepage.

Ice hockey: Peißenberg and Schongau are already focusing on the 2021/22 season

The two Bayern league clubs from the region are now also focusing on other things.

"We'll see how the season went financially," says Martin Resch.

The team manager of the EAS wants to do Kassensturz soon.

“In September and October we had no income and only expenses.

But our sponsors have stuck to us, that's why we will get through the season properly, not least because we have managed well in the previous years, "says Resch, confident that he will get through the Corona season financially with a black eye.

Meanwhile, his gaze is directed towards the coming season.

"We will sit down and, among other things, discuss the hygiene concept and take stock," reports Resch, who also wants to speak to the players as soon as possible.

"Usually we do this in the spring after the season, but we will prefer that," says the EAS team manager.

"We are convinced of the team and try to hold them together," said Resch.

If possible, he wants to continue with the previous team.

Ice hockey: Little hope in Peißenberg that Sinan Ondörtoglu will return

Personnel planning for 2021/22 is already starting now for the Peißenberg team.

"We'll have a video conference with the team next week, and then the individual talks with the players will start," reports division manager Ortner, who recently had to cope with another departure when talent Sinan Ondörtoglu switched to EC Peiting.

"He wants to try it in a higher class, and I can't refuse that," said Ortner, who has little hope that the exceptional striker will return.

Nevertheless, the “Eishackler” chairman looks to the future with confidence: “We are now planning so that the season can start in October.”

The same applies to the Schongauers, although Resch sees problems with one or the other personnel.

"It could be exciting because one or the other might have noticed through the long break that it could work and stop without ice hockey."
