Beat Feuz drove after victory on the Streif for years, now he has made it. The joy about it was clouded by the fall of his compatriot Urs Kryenbühl.

The Swiss Beat Feuz celebrated his first victory at the famous Hahnenkamm race in Kitzbühel, overshadowed by two violent falls and several long interruptions due to strong winds.

The Swiss, who was considered the eternal runner-up on the Streif, relegated Austrian Matthias Mayer and three-time winner Dominik Paris from Italy to their places.

The German drivers placed in the front of the field in the race, which was included in the program as a replacement for the failed Lauberhorn downhill run in Wengen: Andreas Sander was fifth, Romed Baumann eighth, Dominik Schwaiger twelfth.

The Streif will go down again on Saturday when the official Hahnenkamm descent is held.

The American Ryan Cochran-Siegle and Urs Kryenbühl from Switzerland fell and each had to be flown away by rescue helicopter.

At first there were no diagnoses - at least Cochran-Siegle seemed to have got off lightly despite the violent accident.

Shortly before the finish in the infamous traverse, the US professional lost control of the skis and crashed into a safety net at full speed.

The forceful impact broke through the net and lay behind it.

The jury radio announced that the 28-year-old had pain in his shoulder.

A little later, Kryenbühl caught it at the target jump.

The 26-year-old adjusted incorrectly for the long jump, lost his balance in the air and crashed head first onto the slopes.

After lying motionless at first, he at least moved again afterwards.

The confederate received medical treatment for a long time.

The race was then repeatedly interrupted due to gusts of wind and was in the meantime on the verge of being abandoned.
