Leipzig and Leverkusen could have reduced the gap to the top of the Bundesliga table on Saturday - neither did that. And the team of the hour, Eintracht Frankfurt, is pushing from behind.

Bayern Munich is already the winner of the first day of the second half of the Bundesliga season: While Bayern will not compete until Sunday, the direct rivals RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen gave up on a turbulent Bundesliga afternoon.

RB lost to relegation candidate Mainz 05, Leverkusen lost the top game against VfL Wolfsburg.

Bayer Leverkusen will not get going as planned in 2021.

After a strong and consistent first half of the season, Peter Bosz's team has recently weakened a few times - like the 0: 1 (0: 1) against VfL Wolfsburg in the afternoon.

The guests won with a goal from the new national player Ridle Baku and are now even fourth in the table.

Bayer, again with Lucas Alario in the starting line-up, got off to a strong start and missed several high-class scoring opportunities in the early stages.

Wolfsburg survived the pressure phase with a little luck and struck shortly before the half-time break through Baku.

Mainz 05 has set a signal law in the relegation battle and RB Leipzig surprisingly tripped.

The hosts achieved a 3: 2 (2: 2) success, in which they twice equalized a deficit and then turned the game around.

Leipzig was superior in the field, but failed to play the dominance after a double lead.

Leipzig was already in front after a quarter of an hour when Tyler Adams pushed a rebound over the line.

But a ricochet also helped Mainz into the game: Moussa Niakhate reacted fastest in the 24th minute when Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulasci did not hold a ball.

The interplay continued, the renewed opening goal from Marcel Halstenberg (30th) equalized again Niakhate (35th) before the change.

Immediately after the break it was Mainz's turn again: Leandro Barreiro scored his first Mainz goal, prepared by Danny Da Costa, who had just been loaned from Eintracht Frankfurt.

For a long time, since November 2012 to be precise, the Freiburg team had been waiting for a home win against VfB Stuttgart.

Christian Streich's team prevailed 2: 1 (2: 1) against the second best away team in the league.

VfB started the game better, Silas Wamangituka used a rebound to lead (7th).

This did not last long, the guests were countered, Ermedin Demirovic's conclusion was deflected into the left corner (14th).

In the middle of the guests' best game phase, Woo-Yeong Jeongs turned the game in favor of Freiburg (37th).

The game turned out to be extremely open, initially Janik Haberer had missed a big chance, then he fouled Wamangituka in his own penalty area.

SCF goalkeeper Florian Müller was not fooled and held the powerlessly shot ball by Nicolás González.

The SCF lacked relieving attacks in the second half of the game, Stuttgart played firmly in the front.

But luck was not with the able.

FC Augsburg have succeeded in turning things around after losing three of the last time.

A little luck and Florian Niederlechner were enough against Union Berlin to a 2-1 (1-1).

The Berliners were decisive in the game, Augsburg efficient: A long, extended tee landed at Niederlechner, who scored his first goal of the season (17th).

Last time it was 13. Union played patiently forward, a concealed shot by Marcus Ingvartsen from the edge of the box restored the starting position (25th).

He didn't score for months, then twice: Niederlechner brought the FCA back into the lead at the beginning of the second half (47th).

Ingvartsen was granted a double, however, the Berliner failed from the point on Union goalkeeper Rafael Gikiewicz.

Heiko Herrlich's team still had to tremble, but thanks to the success they secured their eleventh place in the middle of the table.

The Bielefeld team won seven points from the last three games and remained without a goal for more than 300 minutes.

Against Frankfurt, however, the promoted team suffered a clear 1: 5 (1: 3) defeat.

The offensively presented der Eintracht was worthy of a top team: André Silva, Filip Kostic and again Silva shocked Bielefeld, who drew hope from Sergio Cordova's connection goal shortly before the break (36th).

Shortly after the restart, Arminia took any chance of scoring points with an own goal by Joakim Nilsson (51st).

Substitute Luka Jovic ended the one-sided game with his third goal in the second game after his return on loan.

If 1. FC Köln wins on Sunday in Hoffenheim (6 p.m., TV: Sky), Bielefeld slips onto the relegation place.
