Hertha BSC bankruptcy against Werder Bremen: Berlin falls apart

2021-01-23T20:40:29.203Z

Hertha BSC can be dismantled by Werder Bremen and is once again in front of a pile of broken glass. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to imagine that this will have personal consequences.

Scene of the game:

In the middle of the second half, Hertha attacker Matheus Cunha ran towards the Bremen goal, penetrated the penalty area and only had to push the ball into the middle, where teammate Krzystof Piatek was free.

Instead, Cunha tried to graduate himself and unsuccessfully.

And if you wanted to, you could interpret this scene without risk: This is simply not a team.

Result of the game:

Hertha lost at home to Werder Bremen 1: 4 (1: 2) and thus the second home game in a row with three goals behind.

For Werder, Davie Selke scored a penalty, Ömer Toprak, Leonardo Bittencourt and Josh Sargent.

Jhon Córdoba shortened to 1: 2 shortly before the break.

You can find the detailed match report here.

The first half:

Hertha under pressure, Hertha nervous, and in such a state of mind, everyone knows, you make mistakes.

Or you completely unnecessarily foul your opponent in the penalty area, as Maximilian Mittelstädt did.

Davie Selke, Werder striker who actually still belongs to Hertha BSC, met and made all his frustration with the Hertha time air in a primal scream.

Hertha was superior, but the team couldn't think of anything and instead missed a penalty after the 0: 1.

Werder's Ömer Toprak headed a corner kick on the other side to make it 2-0 into the Hertha goal.

The connection goal by Córdoba just before half-time once again stoked hope for the Berliners, and Sky commentator Kai Dittmann sensed that the second half would be "a huge game".

The second half:

Dittmann's demands are either so low or they are not met.

Werder scored twice, Hertha was down and ultimately played, yes, you have to say it like a relegated team.

Player of the game:

The Austrian Romano Schmid is only 20 years old and nobody in the Bundesliga really knew him before the season.

Now he's already the Spiritus Rector at Werder.

Missed shot of the game:

Piatek missed a penalty against Hoffenheim, now Cunha did the same.

In both cases game-defining situations, against Hoffenheim at 0: 0, now at 0: 1.

Cunha started running, and because it is so fashionable now, he stopped just before the shot, but took the momentum and shot the ball more or less into the arms of Werder keeper Pawlenka.

And you couldn't deny yourself a certain malicious joy due to the ridiculousness of this penalty execution.

Number of the game:

At the end of the game, Hertha had 18 shots on goal, Werder seven.

Four of those seven shots were goals.

Past of the game:

Bruno Labbadia was once a goalscorer, also at Werder Bremen: 63 games, 19 goals, at least.

It was the time when the current sports director Michael Preetz hit the assembly line at Hertha BSC.

You couldn't blame them if they both got a little melancholy that evening and preferred to think about the pink past.

Because a Hertha future is difficult to imagine given the mood in both of them.

Quote from the game:

"That doesn't stop us all from losing optimism." It was definitely just a slip of the tongue by Michael Preetz in an interview with Sky before the game.

But you won't find a more apt sentence about the situation in Berlin.

Realization of the game:

Hertha BSC, which won convincingly in the first half of the season at Werder - namely, of course, with 4: 1 - is now fully in the relegation battle with its expensive squad and all its claims.

And whoever thinks this game is the low point, the culmination of sadness, should take a shy look at the program for the coming weeks: the next opponents are Frankfurt, Bayern, Stuttgart, Leipzig and Wolfsburg.

The club is once again in the immediate vicinity of the point zero.

The only good thing for Hertha fans is that they now know this feeling well.

Actually, they don't know anyone else.
