With a lone league win in the last five rounds, Chelsea and Frank Lampard found some solace in the English Cup tonight (Sunday), as they qualified for the quarter-finals with a light 1: 4 at the expense of Lawton in the sub-league.
The Blues who will meet Barnsley in the next round enjoyed a quick pairing from Tami Abraham (11 and 17) at the desolate Stamford Bridge, but the visitors surprised with a goal in the 30th minute by Jordan Clark, which set up the half-time score.
16 minutes to the whistle, Avraham pressed close after Hudson Odoi’s cooking on the way to the second hat-trick of his career. In the 85th minute Timo Werner missed from the penalty spot, but the incident did not particularly spoil the successful evening of the Blues.
