The Army team achieved first place in the Republican Youth Boxing Championship, which was held by the Game Union in Al-Assad Sports City in Lattakia, with the participation of 70 boxers representing most of the provincial teams.
The army topped the general ranking of the participating teams with 24 points, 4 golds, followed by the Latakia team with 24 points, 3 golds, then Aleppo with 21 points, 2 gold and Hama with 16 points, 1 Gold and Damascus with 7 points, Quneitra and Tartous, each with 3 points, Daraa with two points, and Rural Damascus without points.
In a statement to SANA, Boxing Federation President Kamel Shabib said that sporting activities and tournaments have stopped, but the Game Federation has not stopped the experiments to select the players of the national teams. The experiments do not achieve the desired goal and are not a substitute for the official tournaments, pointing out that this tournament is the first to be held within the calendar of this year’s activities after A whole year of absence from tournaments due to the Corona pandemic.
Shabib added that the federation established this tournament to select the youth team that will represent us in the next Arab championship that will be hosted in Damascus next April. It was successful organizationally, administratively, technically and arbitrarily and was distinguished by competition, strength and excitement, and the evidence is that the Army Authority won first place in the last day, although it was equal to the Latakia team by 24 points and the number of gold medals won by each team was used to determine the first place in the tournament.
Shabib revealed that the boxers who distinguished themselves in this championship will be invited to hold a camp in Damascus for a month, and then they will be sent to an external camp in Iran after the return of our national men's team, which is currently camping there in preparation for the upcoming benefits, and the camp will be a station and criterion for selecting the best boxers to participate in the upcoming Arab championship in Damascus and other benefits.
