What sounds strange is easy to explain.
Ice swimmer Franz Herbst loves to get into the water at temperatures around freezing point.
“In November I swam for half an hour in the Kronthaler Weiher,” says the Pemmering vice world champion.
At the weekend he was out for a few lanes again and asked professional boxer Simon Zachenhuber if he didn't want to swim with them.
And since the 22-year-old is up for any joke, he spontaneously agreed.
“We have known each other for a long time,” says Herbst.
"Simon and his sisters used to be in my swimming group with the Erdinger Delphinen - as did rowing world champion Oliver Zeidler, by the way." Herbst's daughter Anna is also a first-class swimmer and is currently attending college in the USA.
“It's always warm there,” he knows from the 63-year-old.
“In contrast to here,” adds Zachenhuber with a laugh, before going into the pond for a few (short) laps with Herbst.
