Peitings defense defends again - and the SC Riessersee gets to feel that

On Friday the EC Peiting offered a "wild bird" game, conceding nine goals against Weiden.

The ice hockey league team showed a completely different side on Sunday.

And that at the derby in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

- Two days later, there was only one word for the madness that occurred on Friday against Weiden: "Wild birds", said Sebastian Buchwieser, coach of the EC Peiting.

It's amazing what a team can do two days behind this 8: 9, this unique result in the ice hockey league.

Because in Garmisch-Partenkirchen there was another defense on the ice that fulfilled their job description, that really protected their own gate as if it were a knight's castle.

The Peitinger conceded only one hit at SC Riessersee and won 3: 1.

Something must have happened, right?

Sebastian Buchwieser briefly took the audience to the press conference in the cabin before the derby.

He said two very crucial things: First, he urged discipline.

For more than 60 minutes he wanted to see players who didn't make at least one thing: mistakes like those in Weiden in abundance.

On the other hand, he warned of the “poisen pills”.

And that meant a look at the opponent who - to speak figuratively - all sharp knives are sharpening.

The top strikers Florian Vollmer and Eetu Ville Arkiomaa (and a handful more) were injured.

Of the three-headed monster, some say the best block in the league, only Ulrich Maurer, Uli, remained.

The Peitinger did not swallow the pills, they took Riessersee seriously.

Peiting heavily outnumbered

Section one was for consolidation.

Two strong outnumbered games, in which the Werdenfelsers didn't even shoot the box dangerously, were like a serum for self-confidence.

Peiting defended himself warmly.

With the 1-0 (18th), the ECP steered the game in a direction that Buchwieser liked.

In the first power play, the ECP continued until Simon Maier pushed the puck over the line.

At this point, Riessersee was already looking regrettably haphazard - a compliment for the Peitinger Defense and the Forecheck.

“The team has set an example,” praised the coach.

In the second third, Peiting extended his lead to 3-0.

Both goals were a mix of Nardo Nagtzaam's eye for goal and Riesserseer's mistakes, which Peiting had known so far.

But that's history.

The SCR lost the puck twice in the danger area in the middle of the pitch.

You can watch the video for as long as you want - and Buchwieser revealed that he sometimes analyzes well into the night - a coach can't do anything against such mistakes.

A goal in the last third

Correspondingly, George Kink from the SCR also spoke of a “very bad build-up game”.

These were "tough days" for his team.

Lots of games, lots of injuries.

"Peiting was able to rest," believes Kink.

And on top of that offered four whole rows.

The seven defenders in particular "were a relief," explains Buchwieser.

In the last round, the guests only did what was necessary.

The Riesserseer met once.

“It was clear that they would not let themselves be drained,” says Buchwieser.

It was important for him to realize that his team can take defending very seriously.

Fewer mistakes, no more gambling (gambling, say the ice hockey pros) that all too often goes wrong.

"It was a deserved win," says Buchwieser - and the first against the SCR this season.
