Kevin Großkreutz ends his professional career

He won the German championship, won the DFB-Pokal and even became world champion in 2014: Kevin Großkreutz still did not experience a picture-book career. Now the former Dortmund probably wants to switch to amateur sport.

Former BVB player Kevin Großkreutz is ending his professional career.

The 32-year-old who was last without a club announced this in an Instagram video on Sunday.

"After 15 years, it's time for me to say goodbye to professional football," said Großkreutz.

He showed some of the highlights of his career, which were accompanied by music.

With Borussia Dortmund, Großkreutz was twice German champion (2011, 2012) and DFB Cup winner (2012) under coach Jürgen Klopp.

He played six international matches and was appointed to the squad for the 2014 World Cup by national coach Joachim Löw.

At the tournament in Brazil, however, he was not used.

“I'm incredibly proud to have lived these moments with you,” said Grosskreutz, but also remembered his scandals: “It may not have been a picture book career when I think of the kebab toss.

In 2014, a man accused Großkreutz of throwing a kebab at him.

In the same year, Großkreutz hit the headlines because he urinated in a hotel lobby after losing the DFB Cup final.

In 2017, Großkreutz had to leave VfB Stuttgart because he got into a fight with young VfB players.

Großkreutz played for Rot Weiss Ahlen at the beginning of his career, from there he moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2009, Großkreutz has been a BVB fan since childhood.

After six years in Dortmund, Großkreutz switched to Galatasaray in Istanbul, then via Stuttgart to Darmstadt and finally to Uerdingen.

Großkreutz was under contract with the third division team until last October.

Großkreutz did not rule out joining an amateur club.

“Now I want to go back.

Go to amateur sports with friends and write the next story.

I'm looking forward to it, ”he said.

Recently there had been rumors that Großkreutz would switch to the Westfalenliga, the sixth division.
