Manchester United prevailed 3-2 (1-1) against Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup and further exacerbated the crisis at the reigning English champions.

The goals for United were scored by Mason Greenwood (26th minute), Marcus Rashford (48th) and Bruno Fernandes (78th).

Mohamed Salah scored two goals (18./59.) For the Reds, who had last 438 minutes without a goal in the league.

Liverpool have only won one of the last seven competitive games, Manchester United have been unbeaten in five competitive games (four wins, one draw).

With the opening goal the usual blind understanding of the Liverpool attack line flashed up again: Roberto Firmino dropped into midfield, picked up the ball between the lines and used Salah with a perfectly weighted interface pass.

The Egyptian chipped the ball over the hopeless United goalkeeper Dean Henderson and gave Liverpool the lead (18th).

But this did not last long: The better team at Old Trafford was Manchester United.

This was initially reflected more in the game than in clear opportunities.

Then James Milner misjudged himself: Liverpool's midfield veteran jumped under a diagonal ball from Rashford, Greenwood had stolen from Milner's back and left Alisson Becker with no defense in goal (26th).

Liverpool then found it difficult to get in front of the hosts' goal.

Donny van de Beek succeeded on the other side, but the Dutchman couldn't find a teammate in front of Alisson with a cross pass (28th).

Paul Pogba put a shot from 18 meters just next to the goal (45 + 1).

After the break, Greenwood returned the favor for the template to make it 1-1: With a long ball behind the Liverpool defense, the 19-year-old cleared Rashford, who had started deep, this time it was Liverpool defender Rhys Williams who misjudged himself.

In front of Alisson alone, Rashford made it 2-1 (48th).

Unlike in the first half, Jürgen Klopp's Liverpoolers reacted to the goal this time with an increase in performance.

Milner brought his own conclusion from close range clearly over the goal (58th), then he initiated the equalization with a ball win: An unsuccessful pass from Edinson Cavani landed in Milner's foot, the Englishman played on to Firmino and let the following pass of the Brazilian through to the better positioned Salah.

He hit from about ten meters to equalize (59th).

United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer then changed his Portuguese playmaker Bruno Fernandes for the closing stages.

The Red Devils' top scorer of the season made his appearance in the 78th minute: Cavani had been fouled by Fabinho just outside the penalty area.

Fernandes straightened the ball - and flicked the ball to the winning goal in the lower right corner.

Cavani headed after a cross from Fernandes had the chance to make it 4-2, but failed at the post.
