Manchester United's 2: 3 win over Liverpool in the fourth round of the English Cup yesterday (Sunday) was the first victory of Ola Gunnar Solskjaer as coach of the big rival.
Manchester won at the end of a fun meeting with the help of a late goal (78 ') by Bruno Fernandez, with a free kick and will next meet West Ham.
"It's a good feeling for us. We played the way we wanted," said the Red Devils manager. "We found a way to play the way we believe it should, the way the players believe. We are getting stronger and stronger. We had good results in the past when playing in a diamond or 2-5 "3, to eliminate the opponent. But tonight we played positive, that's our statement to ourselves, we got a boost of confidence that we can face the best teams when we play our football style."
Solskjaer scored the winning goal as United knocked Liverpool out of the cup in the fourth round in 1999, en route to a historic treble.
The manager was asked if yesterday's result could be a turning point on the way to a successful season like then.
"There is definitely a good atmosphere in the locker room right now, but I will only answer it on Wednesday (after the meeting with Sheffield United in the league)," Solskjaer replied, "I want to see how we will react, how we will continue mentally. "But tomorrow morning I want to see players think about Wednesday, not Liverpool."
One of Manchester's concerns is the knee injury suffered by Marcus Rashford, who created the situation for Mason Greenwood who scored the equalizer, after Muhammad Salah scored first, and then himself put the host up for a 1-2 lead.
"Marcus will undergo tests, hoping it is not too severe. We will see later," Solskjaer said.
