Certainty for bowlers: the season has now ended in Bavaria

It was to be feared: The season for the Bavarian bowlers is over.

Andreas Seiband from Schongau can understand that.

A league operation in the summer was not an alternative.

District

- Andreas Seiband was really satisfied with his appearance.

The sports bowler from SG Peiting-Schongau had clearly won his duel against Marc-Andre Thanner with 3: 1 sets and achieved a remarkable result with 588 wood, in the end even the second best of the day.

It's just a shame that Seiband's performance in the Bayernliga against the guests of “Goldener Kranz Durach” was already three months ago.

And what's more, it's a shame that the Schongauer has to take a break for a long time.

Because the Bavarian Skittles and Bowling Association (BSKV) has decided to end the 2020/2021 season "with immediate effect without evaluation" in its sphere of activity.

The reason for this is "because the current pandemic situation with the associated government restrictions does not mean that a quick return to regular gaming operations can be expected".

Back in December, the DKBC (Deutscher Kegler-Bund Classic) had declared the season in the national leagues to be over - the women of FC Seeshaupt were affected in the 2nd League South.

The associations now hope that a regular season can start again in September 2021.

The league division from autumn 2020 will then apply.

So far no criticism of the decision

Seiband sees the end of the season not only from the perspective of a player.

The Schongauer has been chairman of the cone district of Upper Bavaria for almost five years.

The decision of the BSKV presidium (it was unanimous) "was inevitable," he says.

"All sports halls are closed, nobody can train." And what's more, no time can be foreseen when indoor sports for amateurs will be possible again in Bavaria.

Before the decision of the BSKV, the functionaries in the eight Kegel districts sought opinions.

In Upper Bavaria, Seiband reports, there was no feedback in which the end of the season was criticized.

"There is also no sensible way to avert the end."

The time was already running against the bowlers anyway.

A league season usually lasts from September to early April.

Due to Corona, the 2020/2021 round in the divisions up to the Bayernliga started late on October 10th - three planned match days had already passed.

Three weekends later it was over again.

Before a possible restart, "a training phase of three to four weeks would have to be planned in," says Seiband.

And then the remaining games would have to be completed by spring - an impossibility.

As a rule, the clubs cannot freely dispose of their venues.

Usually several clubs always use one system.

A large part of the bowling alleys - Seiband estimates the proportion at 80 percent - depends on a catering establishment in this country.

In Bavaria the economies are currently all closed.

At the Schongau facility, “we would have the option of running a pure sports business,” says Seiband.

But what use is that "if there is nowhere else to play".

All facilities have fixed dates in normal times, similar to ice rinks.

The railway operators consciously rely on private bowlers in their calculations.

There is hardly any chance of playing catch-up games during the week.

Bowling in summer?

D rather not.

Seiband is certain that there would be no “acceptance” for a league operation in the summer.

Such a proposal "would not trigger a storm of enthusiasm".

Sports bowling traditionally takes place in the colder months.

The individual championships are an exception.

Incidentally, these competitions have also been canceled.

Should the corona restrictions be relaxed in the short term, Seiband could imagine offering the clubs a cup competition.

But these are only vague considerations.

It remains to be seen whether the long break will lead to a decline in members by autumn.

All clubs, be they sporting or social in nature, “have to assume that”, says Seiband.

In the Upper Bavaria district, which includes the “Zugspitze” and “Chiemgau” districts, around 1,000 women, men and young people are registered as bowlers.

The Schongauer regrets one thing above all: “We're losing one or two years in youth work.” He sees two possible scenarios for autumn.

One scenario: “We are losing people.” The other scenario: “People go back to the clubs because they see what they were missing during the pandemic.” The social component is a driving force, especially in amateur sports: “People are like to be out and about to meet others. "

No friends in sport under pandemic conditions

Skittles under pandemic conditions was not the yellow of the egg, as Seiband and his teammates learned in October.

According to the hygiene concepts, no spectators were allowed on the track.

Cheers were forbidden, only clapping was allowed.

The reports that the district chairman received were correspondingly: “A lot of people said: 'Then we can stop too.

That has nothing to do with our usual sport. '"

Also interesting:

Corona continues to hang like a dark cloud over football in the district.

With the start of the knockout round in the League Cup, it won't work for now.

For months, the two Bayern league clubs from the district have been condemned to idleness.

Now TSV Peißenberg and EA Schongau are drawing the consequences.
