Mesut Ozil was officially introduced today (Wednesday) as a Fenerbahce player.

The German is of Turkish descent who signed with the club from Istanbul for 3.5 seasons after eight years at Arsenal, when in his last year he did not play and was not even included in the squad due to the decision of coach Mikal Arte.

During his presentation, the player made some interesting statements regarding his signing with his new team, about the end of the episode at Arsenal and also to the German team.

"20-25 years ago I was a Turkish immigrant boy who ran after the ball with a Fenerbahce shirt with the number 10 on it with the name JJ Okucha," Ozil shared on Twitter.

"It was an honor for me then to wear the shirt and I dreamed about it for many years. Arsenal and I agreed to release my contract, I signed for 3.5 years at Fenerbahce, which I zealously supported since childhood."

Ozil continued: "Now is the time for a fresh start for me with my childhood group, in the amazing city of Istanbul. The city of Napoleon said of it that if the world was one country, then Istanbul would be its capital."

The new Fenerbahce star thanked the people responsible for his transfer to his new team: "I would like to express my appreciation to our president, Mr Ali Kush, to the management, to the sporting director said Belzoglou and to coach Errol Bolot for trusting me."

Ozil also referred to difficult experiences from his time in Germany, claiming to have suffered from racism throughout his time in the country.

The player retired from the team in 2018 after harsh reactions he received following a storm around Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the time.

Asked after his presentation at Fenerbahce about the possibility of him returning to the German national team, Ozil replied in the negative: "Once I make a decision, I will not make it back. I wish the German national team success, but I will not return to play for the national team."
