Seven years ago, on January 13, 2014, Kiryat Shmona hosted the undefeated champion and leader Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Since then, Bachar has met Maccabi Tel Aviv many more times, including several head-to-head meetings about the championship as Hapoel Beer Sheva coach, and in many of them he has used mental exercises to instill faith in his trainees that the rival from Tel Aviv can be defeated.
Tonight (20:45, Sport 5), Bachar will face another serious test, this time as the coach of the team he is a fan of in his youth - Maccabi Haifa, which has been carrying a huge psychological barrier in recent years when it comes to direct encounters with its biggest rival.
The Greens have won just once in their last 29 league games between teams, with the last win being somewhere in 2016 from a Gary Kegelmacher goal.
In the first game between the teams this season (2: 2) Bachar chose not to mess with the mental side at all and decided to take pressure off the shoulders of his players.
"There are moments that should not be overloaded," explained a source at the club.
"Barak decided that at this point in time there was no need to turn that game into one that would be talked about as decisive for an entire season, and the truth is that it almost paid off."
But this time the Greens will be content with almost nothing, and the Green crowd is already thirsty for victory, one that will finally prove that the current season is theirs, a season that will not slip through their hands.
Unlike the previous time, officials at the club know how to tell that Bachar has prepared a mental surprise for his trainees and he is expected to present it to them today.
"We do not know exactly what he is planning," the same source explained.
"But he prepared something that would drive the players crazy just before the game."

If in Kiryat Shmona and even in Be'er Sheva Bachar decided to follow the line that tried to instill in his players the belief that it is possible to win, this time, at least that is how the players feel, the coach is involved in instilling the belief that the team is self-sufficient.
"Maccabi Tel Aviv came so relaxed against us last season, because they just knew they were better than us," states a senior player in Haifa.

Another point that Becher is trying to make is that recent history in rivalry does not matter.
"Most of the players have not been here in the bad years," explains a young player on the team.
"It is true that last season was horrible in terms of the direct encounters against them, but these are not players who have lost time and time again to Maccabi Tel Aviv, and we all believe it is possible. We respect Maccabi Tel Aviv very much but know we are capable and need to win."

With this psychological barrier Bachar will arrive tonight and try to break down another significant wall, with Carmel knowing that a first victory after more than four years will be another milestone on the way of the Greens to their first championship in a decade.
"Obviously it's a game on three points and he will not decide the season," claims a source at the club.
"But we all understand what the real meaning is."
