Novak Djokovic returned to the courts today (Friday) when he took part in a showcase tournament in Adelaide, in a game held in front of an audience in Australia and reminded the tennis players how much they missed the presence of spectators and how much they miss tennis in particular and the world of sports in general.

At first Djokovic suffered pain in his hand and announced he would not appear for the game.

He was replaced by compatriot Philipp Krainovic, who met the young Italian Yannick Sinner - but then Djokovic announced he did feel fit, joining the game in the second set, thus completing the Serbian duo a 3-6, 3-6 victory.

"Sorry I didn't get on the game from the start," he told 4,000 spectators at Adelaide, celebrating his "release" after 14 days in solitary confinement at the hotel. "I had to undergo treatments.

Djokovic, who was wearing a wristband, said: "Obviously before the ATP Cup and the Australian Championship you do not want to take too many risks."

Before that, Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka met on the field, in a game where Serena won 2: 6, 6: 2, 7:10, with the two not hiding their excitement of playing in front of an audience.

As is well known, Australia is very determined in its fight against Corona, with very strict regulations, which allows the country to return to an almost normal routine - something that could be seen in the 4,000-man full court tennis game.

The day before the game Serena, Osaka and Djokovic made a trip to Adelaide.

"We didn't play in front of an audience for over a year, so it took a whole lot of time," said the enthusiastic Serena, who was recently in solitary confinement with her 3-year-old daughter, "We were just happy to be here, now it was all worth it."

As you may recall, the Australian Open will open in Melbourne on February 8, and in recent weeks the tennis players who have come to the country have complained quite a bit about the strict isolation imposed on them.
