After several injuries, he returned completely to the hill in 2020.

  • Severin Freund

    has been

    active

    in

    ski flying

    since 1995

    and starts for the

    WSV-DJK Rastbüchl

    .

  • The

    ski jumper

won numerous World Cup victories, world championship titles and Olympic gold, among other things.

  • After several injuries, he took part in the World Cup for the first time from the beginning in the 2020/2021 season.

Severin Freund

was born on May 11, 1988 in Freyung, Lower Saxony.

The German

ski jumper

starts for the

WSV-DJK Rastbüchl

.

He has also been a member of the Zoll ski team since 2015.

Freund currently lives in Munich.

In 1993 he started his sporting activity in Nordic combined.

In 1995, however, the later

World Cup

winner decided to switch to specialty jumping.

In this discipline he took part in international youth competitions for the first time in 2002 and also in the Alpine Cup.

The young ski jumper celebrated several successes at the national level in 2006. He was named German Youth Champion both individually and in a team and also won the overall ranking of the German Cup.

Severin Freund also took part in the Junior World Championships in Kranj and came in 13th in the individual.

The

ski jumper

made it

into the World Cup team

in the coming year

.

In

December 2007 he was able to prove

his talent in

ski flying

for the first time in a first-class international jumping event.

Freund finished the following Four Hills Tournament with rank 30 and thus got his first World Cup point.

A week later, he even made it to 20th place in Bischofshofen.

The ski jumper suffered a herniated disc, but made a successful comeback

A "sensation", as it was described in numerous media reports, occurred on January 15, 2011. Severin Freund celebrated his first World Cup victory in Sapporo, Japan.

At the same time it was the first victory of a German in four years.

On January 30th he achieved his second first place in the World Cup, this time in Willingen in Hesse.

This victory also had a double meaning, because it was the first of a German in eight years on this hill.

Due to a herniated disc in April 2012 and the associated operation, the

ski jumper

had to take a break for several months.

But already in September he celebrated his comeback and the medal hunt for the

World Cup

winner

continued.

In Klingenthal, he not only achieved his first Summer Grand Prix victory.

He also won the title of German individual champion.

Only a few weeks later he was also victorious in the World Cup team competition in Kuusamo.

But

Severin Freund

celebrated his greatest successes in the

2014/2015

season. Among other things, he made it to first place in the

overall World Cup

.

The Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun finally made Freund the individual

world champion

for the first time

.

The athlete topped all of this with a victory at the Olympic Games in Sochi together with the German team.

Severin Freund continued to celebrate successes until several injury breaks followed

The particularly successful 2014/2015 season was followed by numerous other medals such as:

  • 2015: Silver at the Nordic World Ski Championships on the normal hill

  • 2015: Gold at the German championship in individual and team

  • 2016: Silver in the team at the Ski Flying World Championships

Another

operation

followed in the 2015/2016

season

, this time on the hip.

Despite the severe restrictions in preparation for the 2016/2017 World Cup,

Severin Freund won

on November 26, 2016 and took the

lead

in the

overall World Cup

.

However, the

Olympic champion

did not make it to the podium afterwards.

There were further breaks in injury, again due to

cruciate ligament tears

and a meniscus operation.

In the 2020/2021 season, the

ski jumper

took part

in a World Cup for the first time from the beginning.

In the individual competition on November 29, 2020, he secured a

top ten placement for

the first time in four years

.
