Defending champion Denmark followed record European champions Sweden into the final of the Handball World Cup in Egypt.
After Sweden qualified for the final for the first time in 20 years by beating France 32:26 (16:13) in the first semi-final, the Danes made the Scandinavian duel thanks to a 35:33 (18:16) victory against European champions Spain on Sunday (5.30 p.m.; TV: Eurosport) in Cairo perfect.
The best thrower for the team of the former Bundesliga coach Nikolaj Jacobsen was superstar Mikkel Hansen, who was red-handed in the quarter-finals against Egypt, with twelve goals.
Spain will play for bronze against France on Saturday.
“I'm proud of what the team has achieved.
Reaching a World Cup final is never easy, "said coach Nikolaj Jacobsen on Danish television:" It was really a great performance by the boys today. "
In a balanced game, goalkeeper Niklas Landin from THW Kiel became the match winner alongside Hansen.
Spain, who became world champions in 2005 and 2013, did not allow themselves to be discouraged by a four-goal deficit with six minutes to go.
But the turnaround did not succeed in the hot final phase, among other things because of various Landins parades.
With ten seconds to go, however, it wasn't Denmark's goalkeeper but the crossbar that decided the game.
Ruben Marchan Criado only hit the lower edge of the bar, in return, after a break, Lasse Svan hit the final score.
