female world champion in

her nation in this discipline.

Her journey there began when she entered the world of biathlon at the age of ten.

She herself reported that in her younger years, unlike other competitive athletes, she did not only have sport in mind.

Her circle of friends was interested in other things and so Wierer occasionally skipped a training session.

Nonetheless, she always performed at her best in the races.

In May 2015, the biathlete said yes to the cross-country skier.

They met six years earlier and became a couple in 2012.

Corradini works as a trainer for the Trento cross-country team and asked for his partner's hand after the Olympic Games in Sochi.

Wierers first participation in a youth world championship took place in 2007. In the individual and in the

relay

the

biathlete reached

the tenth place, in the

pursuit

rank 14 and in the sprint rank 16.

At the next

World Junior Championships

2008, the athlete could top these rankings and took the

victory

in singles.

But

Dorothea Wierer's

final breakthrough came in 2011. At the Junior World Championships taking place in the Czech Republic at that time, she won three

gold medals

in the

pursuit

, in the sprint and in the individual.

She also stood on the podium in the relay and received the silver medal.

European Championship

ended Wierer with one

gold

and two

silver

She received her first medal in the senior category and thanks to these results was nominated for the 2011 Biathlon World Cup.

In the pursuit race she achieved her first top ten placement.

season. A total of three podium finishes brought her seventh place in the overall World Cup ranking.

Her first victory in a

Thanks to her good performance in shooting, Wierer won gold at the mass start and took her first major individual title.

At the same time, this World Cup victory was the first of an Italian biathlete.

In the same year, she won the overall World Cup, also as the first Italian.

The series of victories for the

did not break off in the

2019/2020

season either.

The
