The biathlete Vanessa Hinz started out as a cross-country skier.
But it was only in the biathlon that she was able to demonstrate her true athletic talent.

was active in cross-country skiing at the beginning of her sporting career.
In 2012 she received an invitation to
biathlon
training and decided to switch.
The biathlete describes her greatest success as her participation in the
2017 World Championships
, in which she won gold twice.

.
Before joining the
biathlon
, she was active in cross-country skiing.
Hinz grew up with her sister, who is one and a half years younger, in Schliersee and is still at the start for the SC Schliersee located there.
As a customs officer, she is also a member of the customs ski team.
The athlete now lives in Ruhpolding, where she also prepares for competitions.
From 2007, the then cross-country skier took part in FSI and junior races, and later also in the Alpine Cup.
She was part of the DSV cross-country team until the 2011/2012 season, when Thomas Pfüller, Secretary General of the DSV, contacted
Hinz
with an invitation to a biathlon trial training session
.
The young athlete was quickly convinced of the new discipline and switched in 2012.
Vanessa Hinz quickly achieved success in biathlon
Vanessa Hinz was accepted into the German B national squad surprisingly quickly after the move and demonstrated her athletic talent at the 2013 Junior World Championships.
In the pursuit, she narrowly missed the medal spots, but in the relay she won
two days later,
together with
Laura Dahlmeier
and
Franziska Preuss
.
Hinz also won a
gold medal
in the relay
at the following European championship in Bansko
, this time together with
Nicole Wötzel, Karolin Horchler
and
Franziska Preuss
.
In the individual, the biathlete landed in sixth place.
Her World Cup debut followed, to her own surprise, in 2013.
Despite her good shooting performance, she did not make it to the points due to running problems.
Vanessa Hinz secured her first top ten placement at the 2014/2015 World Cup thanks to her flawless series of shots.
But it got even better and that in the season.
Here, too, Hinz started again together with Franziska Preuss.

With united forces, the four women won gold.
The biathlete also won her first world title in the 2015 season.

the second race of the season, the biathlete qualified for participation by finishing in sixth place.
She competed in both the mixed and women's relay and won gold in both.
The successful biathlete qualified again for the
Olympic Games
and was allowed to travel this time.
In Pyeongchang, she finished fifth in 2018.
Due to a "careless mistake", as the world champion calls it, she narrowly missed the medal ranks.
Hinz pulled the rifle away too early on the fifth shot and missed the target.
