Excitement at Ajax Amsterdam: When Uefa published the updated player lists for the Europa League on Wednesday, the name Sébastien Haller was missing.
The French record purchase of West Ham United should already provide goals in the games of the sixteenth-finals against OSC Lille (18 and 25 February, 9 p.m. each time).
But the Dutch record champions had apparently made a mistake when reporting, Haller must now watch in the European Cup.
According to the regulations, a club may add three players between the group stage and the knockout round.
Ajax, as third party »relegated« from the Champions League, took advantage of this opportunity.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who moved to Schalke 04, was removed from the squad, while offensive player Oussama Idrissi, who was only borrowed from Seville on Monday, is new on the list.
The club is currently trying to find out why Haller, who came to Amsterdam for a transfer fee of 22 million euros, was not reported.
The request to get a playing license for Haller should have little chance of success.
For that, the mistake must have been with the Dutch association or with Uefa.
According to a report by Dutch broadcaster NOS, this is not the case.
Coach Erik ten Hag has meanwhile also commented on the case at a press conference: “Sébastien Haller is incredibly disappointed, but he is also realistic.
He knows that the mistake was not made on purpose. «When scoring goals, Haller can now concentrate on the league.
After 20 matchdays, Ajax is seven points ahead of first place.
