The Uefa disciplinary body has suspended André Onana from Ajax Amsterdam for a doping violation for twelve months.
This was announced by the Dutch top club.
The forbidden substance furosemide was detected in the urine of the 24-year-old goalkeeper during a control on October 30, 2020.
The ban on Onana is effective immediately and applies to all national and international competitions.
Ajax describes the incident as follows: On the morning of October 30th, Onana felt uncomfortable.
He wanted to take a drug to relieve the symptoms.
Without knowing it, the association writes, however, he took Lasimac, which contains the active ingredient furosemide.
The drug is said to have been prescribed to his wife.
The Football Association Disciplinary Body has stated that Onana had no intention of cheating.
However, Uefa is of the opinion that, based on the anti-doping rules in force, an athlete is obliged at all times to ensure that no prohibited substances enter their body.
Ajax meanwhile appeals the verdict.
The next breakdown
For Ajax it is the second serious setback in 24 hours.
On Thursday it became known that the club had not reported its record transfer Sébastian Haller for the Europa League, which was committed for 22 million euros.
At international games he is only a spectator now.
“It's an administrative mistake, something with computers.
Put a tick or not.
Something went wrong.
He was on the list as normal.
We will do all we can to convince Uefa of this, ”said coach Erik ten Hag at a press conference, according to the media.
