What if we finally considered physical activity as a medicine?
This is the great challenge of the “sport and health” programs deployed throughout the country and which are aimed at the elderly as well as people with a chronic disease or those wishing to be supported after cancer.
In repair or in prevention.
"It is scientifically proven that the best way to be in good health is to practice regular physical activity", repeats the doctor Michel Cymes.
The latter, with around twenty doctors and athletes, launched the collective “Pour une France qui bouge.
"" Movement is as essential as knowing how to read, write and count, "explains the group, worried about the lack of physical activity linked to the health crisis.
However, a sedentary lifestyle increases the risk of having one of the 36 chronic diseases, such as diabetes, cancer or cardiovascular disease by 30%.
"Among the major risk factors likely to favor the development of a chronic disease - smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, junk food - physical inactivity is the one that is the most widely ignored", warns Professor Carré .
In forty years, young people have lost a quarter of their cardiovascular capacity
In particular, it supports the organizing committee for the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, in the development of some of its programs, such as "30 minutes of physical activity per day", launched this week in schools, at the occasion of the Olympic and Paralympic week.
Here again, the observation is edifying: in forty years, young people have lost a quarter of their cardiovascular capacities, and therefore of their health capital.
During confinement, the French had developed a passion for sport, and although it is currently difficult to practice, especially indoors (the programs intended for the priority public - the disabled and people suffering from chronic diseases - have however been maintained ), they placed (37%) the practice of physical activity at the top of their good resolutions for 2021.
According to the sport and health barometer of the French Federation of Physical Education and Voluntary Gymnastics, 81% of French people practice a sport (+ 17 points compared to December 2019).
Little by little, society is integrating the fact that sport is essential for its well-being, its health and the development of the person.
All they have to do is cross the threshold of a club or a structure offering them adequate support.
