The journey of FC Bayern Munich to the Club World Cup in Qatar went a little differently than planned.
After the 1-0 win against Hertha BSC on Friday evening, the German soccer champions wanted to fly from BER Airport to Doha at 11:15 p.m.
On Saturday morning, however, the Bavarians tweeted: "Because of denied starting permission, FC Bayern is now more than seven hours late taking off for the Fifa Club World Cup in Doha." From Berlin, however, it didn't go to Qatar, but back to Munich.
There the crew had to be changed because of the waiting in Berlin, as the Bavarians also announced on Twitter.
Bayern did not provide any information about the exact reasons for the delay.
There is a general ban on night flights at BER Airport.
"Regular scheduled flights in the middle of the night from midnight to 5 am are excluded," says the website.
According to the airport, the FC Bayern machine was ready to take off before midnight.
"From our point of view, nothing spoke against the machine taking off as planned," said BER spokeswoman Sabine Deckwerth of the German press agency.
The machine was not allowed to start.
This is generally issued by air traffic control.
From a legal point of view, however, the Ministry of Infrastructure and State Planning is responsible when it comes to exemptions during the night flight ban.
“We feel totally ripped off by the authorities in charge of Brandenburg politics.
Those responsible do not even know what they did to our team with it, "said Bavaria's CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge of" Bild ".
Without Goretzka and Martínez
The Munich team started the journey with a 22-man squad, but without Leon Goretzka and Javi Martínez.
Both have to pause because of positive corona results.
It is not ruled out that they will still travel.
"We have to look at it from day to day," Flick emphasized, but also limited: "It looks a little better with Leon, with Javi it will probably not be enough."
The time to get used to on site has become shorter for the Bavarians due to the departure delay.
On Monday they will face Al Ahly SC from Egypt as the European Champions League winners in the semi-finals.
The final will be played on Thursday next week.
