December 12, 1971, Stade Vélodrome.

Date of the first duel between Olympique de Marseille and the very young Paris Saint-Germain, born not even a year before.

Since then, there have been 98 others, in all competitions.

Time to see the strongest rivalry in French football develop.

And this Sunday, at the end of the 24th day of Ligue 1, the two enemies face each other for the 100th time.

The opportunity to immerse yourself in this duel unlike any other through the various records, individual and collective, established in the history of this Classic à la française.

4

- The biggest gap in a match between PSG and OM?

Four.

And it happened four times, including three in favor of the Parisians (5-1 in 1978 and 2017 and 4-0 in 2019) and one for the Marseillais (4-0 in 1986).

OM have never scored more than four goals against PSG.

- "OM-PSG or PSG-PSG, these matches have not always been a good advertisement for Ligue 1", recognizes Eric Di Meco, in

.

And the last duel to date between the two teams in the league, September 13, 2020, is the perfect example: five red cards were distributed on the lawn of the Parc des Princes, including three for PSG (Neymar, Paredes, Kurzawa) and two at OM (Amavi, Benedetto).

A record in the history of this sometimes heated confrontation, even if the matches of the early 90s were undoubtedly even more violent… Note that Neymar Jr holds the record for individual red cards: two expulsions for the “Ney” , in 2020 therefore, and on October 22, 2017.

7

- The 13,000 lucky people who gathered in the stands of the Parc des Princes for PSG-OM on April 7, 1979 were entitled to a shower of goals.

Seven in total!

Classic Record.

A match won 4-3 by Paris-SG, thanks to the achievements of Bernard Bureau (5th), Mustapha Dahleb (55th), Armando Bianchi (57th) and Carlos Bianchi (86th), while Marc Berdoll (2nd, 77th) and Buigues (73rd) had scored for OM.

10

- Between October 30, 2012 in the 8th of the Coupe de la Ligue, and May 21, 2016, in the final of the Coupe de France, PSG lined up ten straight victories against their rival, in all competitions (7 in L1, 2 in CdF, 1 in CdL).

The longest series of its kind in the history of the Classic.

11

- With 11 goals, Zlatan Ibrahimovic is the top scorer in Classic history.

Two other former Parisians completed the podium, Edinson Cavani (7) and Pedro Miguel Pauleta (6).

First ex-Marseillais in the list, Hervé Flores (5) was joined by two members of the current workforce of PSG, Kylian Mbappé and Angel Di Maria (5).

We therefore have five Parisians out of the top six in the ranking.

20

- Holder of the longest series of victories in the French Classic, PSG are also “owners” of the longest series of matches without defeat in the history of their duels against OM.

Between the Marseille successes of November 27, 2011 and September 13, the Olympians broke their teeth 20 times against the club from the capital (17 wins for PSG, 3 draws).

Nine long years of famine that the players of André Villas-Boas had erased thanks to a goal signed by Florian Thauvin at the half-hour mark at the start of the season (0-1).

28

- Marseillais since 2007, if not an interlude at Crystal Palace (2016-17), Steve Mandanda is the record holder for appearances during the Classic, with 28 matches played.

And this far ahead of his Parisian runner-up in the list, Sylvain Armand (18), and Marco Verratti (16).

45

- Since the beginning of the Qatari era, PSG has clearly taken the lead in the history of confrontations between the two teams: 45 Parisian victories, 34 for OM and 20 draws.

- April 29, 2006, Stade de France.

PSG and OM face each other for the first time in the final of the Coupe de France in this case.

With goals from Bonaventure Kalou and Vikash Dhorasoo, Guy Lacombe's players had won the cup (2-1).

79,061 spectators gathered in the stands of Saint-Denis, a record in a Classic.

In 2016, still in the final of the Coupe de France and again at the Stade de France, they were "only" 78,000.

At the Parc des Princes, the gauge did not exceed 48,000 people until January 14, 1994 (1-0).

At the Vélodrome, the record rose to 65,252 spectators on February 26, 2017 (0-2).

10.7 (million viewers)

- Record attendance, but also record in the stands for the 2006 Coupe de France final: 10.7 million viewers followed this meeting on

France Télévisions

(and therefore in clear).

It must be said that the vast majority of duels between the two “best enemies of French football” were broadcast on pay channels.
