Novak Djokovic won the Australian Championship last year for the eighth time in his career after a tough battle against Dominic Tim in the final.

The Serb, who has won 17 Grand Slam titles, will open the tournament this year against 33-year-old Frenchman Jeremy Chardi, who is ranked 66th in the world.

Djokovic is very fond of playing against Chardy and has won him in the 13 games played between the two so far, including one at the Australian Championships somewhere in 2009.

They will lock the day in the main court.

The Serb said ahead of the game: "I have a good balance against Jeremy. His game depends very much on the Serb and the forehand and I feel good because I have played twice this year at the Broad Labor Arena. I feel good."

On the fact that there will be an audience, but not the quantities there are each year, Nola said: "Even if a relatively small percentage of the audience comes, it's something. At this stage of my career, I'm looking for the energy from the audience."

Dominic Tim, who lost to Djokovic in the Australian final last year, also experienced the highlight of his career last year when he won his first Grand Slam final at the United States Championships.

The Austrian, who is ranked third in the tournament, will open against the 33-year-old Kazakh Mikhail Kokushkin (90 in the world), in what will be the first meeting between the two.
