The game in the Bundesliga between Arminia Bielefeld and Werder Bremen on Sunday evening (6 p.m.) has been postponed due to the severe onset of winter, the German Football League (DFL) announced via Twitter.
Due to the heavy and persistent snowfall in connection with frost, the proper implementation of the game is not guaranteed.
A new date has not yet been set.
According to Arminia's media director Daniel Mucha, after an inspection of the pitch on Sunday morning, with the approval of the DFL, the club had previously decided to do everything possible to ensure that the pitch was playable.
"Arminia employees will clear snow from the lawn in the next few hours." At 11.30 am there was another inspection by the so-called sports field commission with the referee team.
East Westphalia particularly affected by the onset of winter
The game of the 2nd Bundesliga between SC Paderborn and 1. FC Heidenheim, which was supposed to kick off at 1.30 p.m. on Sunday, was canceled after an inspection of the field.
The DFL announced this via Twitter.
After a heavy onset of winter, the site could not be cleared of snow in time.
An alternative date is not fixed yet.
East Westphalia is particularly hard hit by the onset of winter.
During the night there was sometimes up to 30 centimeters of snow there.
The A2 motorway from Dortmund in the direction of Hanover was also temporarily closed between Bielefeld-Süd and Bielefeld-Ost due to the massive snowfall on Sunday morning.
The winter service on Bielefelder Berg could not keep up with clearing the road.
The route was opened to traffic again after around two hours.
