At the bottom of the table, Sheffield United, Thomas Tuchel's team won 2-1 (1-0).
Mason Mount (43rd minute) and Jorginho with a penalty kick (58th) scored for the Blues.
Antonio Rüdiger had ensured the interim equalization with an own goal (54th).
It was the first goal for Chelsea under Tuchel.
After the win, the Blues are fifth and with 39 points have one less than Liverpool FC in fourth place.
The guests initially had almost 75 percent possession, but it only became dangerous for Sheffield after long balls.
The hosts, on the other hand, could have been in the lead after just under 30 seconds.
Oliver Burke had hurried away from Antonio Rüdiger, but only hit the outside netting from 12 meters.
