Gerhard Güntner wanted to help for two or three years.

It has become five and a half.

Now the 54-year-old has stopped working as technical manager at SpVgg Kammerberg.

Kammerberg

 - Gerhard Güntner wanted to help for two or three years.

No longer.

But it has become five and a half.

The technical manager of SpVgg Kammerberg made the time-consuming post available during the winter break.

“I'm one for projects.

I want to be successful and not just that something is done.

We have established ourselves in the district league - I have done my job, ”says the 54-year-old.

In the end, he was no longer passionate about the cause.

"It was the right time to stop."

At the professional clubs they work in the background and are secret stars - at least when things are going well.

And if not, they are happy to be blamed for the failure: the squad planners.

Sven Mislintat at VfB Stuttgart and Michael Reschke, formerly with Bayern Munich and until recently with Schalke, are some of the best-known names in the industry.

The Bundesliga clubs are now spending millions on them.

In the amateur area, the technical and team managers take care of the squad with the trainers - mostly on a voluntary basis.

Like in Kammerberg.

It was a long time ago: In the 1992/93 season, Gerhard Güntner won the coveted top scorer in the Dachauer Nachrichten - he scored 32 goals for the C-Classics Kammerberg.

Kurt Göttler, the editor-in-chief at the time, presented him with the challenge cup.

Güntner was never about money, it was time.

“I had most of the work in the club,” he says.

On the side he went about his job and built a house in Kammerberg.

Department head Robert Hartl says: "He didn't just come to me once and said: 'Robert, my three years are long gone'." move several times.

“In the winter, talks with players were on the agenda.

This time virtually in the evening.

Zoom calls may be normal for the boys, but my world is not.

I want to look them in the eye at the table, ”says Güntner.

He pulled the ripcord: "I enjoyed doing it and did it well - but now it's over."

Important transfers in the Güntner era

The search for a successor to Güntner began for the Spielvereinigung.

"Unfortunately, technical managers are not hanging on the trees," emphasizes Hartl.

He knows: “You need knowledge and a good network.

And you also have to come to terms with the fact that others get the laurels. ”Güntner had a good nose.

He had a very good rate of direct hits.

With the then coach Manuel Haupt, who joined the district classics SV Vötting in 2019, he brought footballers like storm ace Robin Streit and central defender Tim Bürchner to Kammerberg.

Perhaps the most important player in the club's recent history was Martin Schön.

"Martin came back for the second half of 2018/19 - without him we would have been relegated back then," Güntner is certain.

Thanks to his persuasiveness and Schön's 14 goals in ten games, the league was retained.

“Gerhard did a very good job.

He and the coach played a big part in making the squad keep getting better, ”says Hartl.

At the moment the Kammerberger Kicker are in sixth place in the District League North.

Five years ago it would have been a success, now it's normal.

The squad was rejuvenated under Matthias Koston.

Koston, who has been SpVgg's player-coach since the beginning of this season, like Güntner, has a good network and will take over its tasks.

Treasurer Klaus Kollmair is present at the games and is the team manager's contact for the players.

And Güntner?

He will continue to follow the home and away games.

"But I don't have to be there an hour and a half in advance. I can get to the kick-off on time."

A top scorer as an active player

Incidentally, Gerhard Güntner was also an ace as an active player: In the 1992/93 season, the goalgetter scored 32 goals for the C-class champion SpVgg Kammerberg - and thus secured the top scorer of the Dachau News, which is extremely popular with amateur kickers around Dachau.

Just a few weeks later, Güntner von Kammerberg moved to the district league club TSV Jetzendorf - there, too, one had heard of the proverbial eye for goal of the thoroughbred striker.
